We’re right in the middle of the holiday season. Hanukkah has started, and Christmas and Kwanzaa are just a few weeks away. A lot of companies have holiday parties to celebrate this time of year. In my department, we usually have a holiday lunch or potluck. (Potlucks are the best – especially when deviled eggs are involved.)

But what do employees truly love about the holiday season? Randstad US decided to find out by surveying 1,232 employees. Here are the results:

  • 70% said “time off”
  • 54% said “holiday spirit in the workplace”
  • 41% said “coworkers are happier”
  • 34% said “getting a bonus”
  • 33% said “holiday parties”
  • 22% said “employee potluck”
  • 11% said “cookie exchange”
  • 9% said “gift swap”

It’s no surprise that “time off” is the most popular answer. Nothing is better than taking a few days to rest, relax, and spend time with family and friends.

I am a little surprised that employee potlucks aren’t more highly rated. I mean, come on people! The food is delicious!

It should be noted that philanthropic activities are also important to employees. 75% of employees said that it was important to them that their office participate in philanthropic initiatives during the holiday season.
